Starships were meant to fly

Hi!!!!!

I'm back! :)

I've been so busy with interning and uni these days so much so I literally dozed off while surfing the net these days (yeah, totes not kidding). But that said, I've just three more essays and six more days at the office before I can smell FREEEEEEEEEEEEEDOM! Life's pretty good at the moment (though I'll probably regret even saying this as I start working on my essays later). Another reason why life ain't always a bed of roses - money woes. There's just so many pretty things online thats enticing me to buy now...Focus pocus gurl.

Anyway, here are some pictures from my last brunch trip! My chums and I were at South Melbourne the other day cos we wanna dine at Chez Dre. Unfortunately, the waiting time was about an hour and we were all really starving by then, hence we zoomed down to St. Ali's! It's my second time at St. Ali's and yes it's well-known for its coffee and lattes and chocolates so scroll down for pictures!

My outfit for the day! I was trying to channel these Missoni-inspired printed shorts which I got from General Pants for a steal. You can't see my scarf clearly in this pic cos it's black on black but the next pic shows it all clearly.

 LOVE HER OUTFIT

The Menu. I liiiike

Yeah it's basically brunch inside a warehouse. I kid you not. Cool concept though

The Devil (literally) Wears Prada

I had a huge dilemma two fortnights ago. Apparently the PR company where I was interning at wants me to help out for a luxury watch event. And that was when it suddenly dawned on me that I've been a little tad too 'flashy' for an intern. I mean, which intern goes around toting the latest designer bag, with a pair of Chanel studs (with a ring to boot) and even carries a Mont Blanc La Donna edition pen with her wherever she goes? Apart from the label enthusiast colleague who sits just a few cubicles away from me, and the posh Brit who carries a Birkin, most of the ladies (and gents) in my company make do with a simple tote. And that got me a little startled - am I going far too overboard with all these designer goods?

A very close friend of mine whom I'd confided in retorted me with a rather sharp answer:

"I normally take my miu miu/mulberry/ferragamo bag on a daily basis but no one really cares? Cos at least in my office most of the ladies carry designer bags. And it's in the office dress code to wear a suit everyday so you don't ever look dressed down."

Ah, that seems to make sense now. When I first started interning at an internationally-acclaimed fashion magazine, the interns there have no qualms carrying the Alexa or a PS1 satchel. Heck, I even personally know of someone who wears a Hugo Boss suit for his interview/internship. And that of course, I also know of mere acquaintances who are totally fine with lugging their Birkins (yes, just 21 and they already own an Ostrich Birkin, thank you very much) to the financial institutions that they were interning at. And then again, who can forget that infamous Singaporean intern who posted on an online forum, asking if it's okay for her to lug her mini Birkin to the law firm where she's interning at.

It's Sept next week and thou shalt not shop

OHMYGAWD IT'S ALREADY LATE AUGUST - can you believe that? My timetable's this semester is really slack - just a three day uni week (well, it's actually four, but you can count Thursday as a non-uni day since it's just an hour lecture with guest lecturers and a 20-minute consultation session every alternate week). That said, I've been trying to save my allowances cos I had a near-death experience last week. Hah, I got really broke (and really, I DID NOT SHOP AT ALL, i swear. Apart from grocery shopping, the only shopping 'indulgence' I ever had was to spend AUD$19.95 on a set of stickers wall decals from this awesome site called lovemae. I love their products - stuff there are soooooo pretty!). And so yeah, back to the being broke part, thank God for my dad cos he sent me moolah :> Okay but I realised I'm a pretty big spender, I went on a shopping spree on ASOS last night (bought some nice corporate wear for my future internship stints) and was busy buying a friend's gift for her 21st at Sportsgirl. And I blew about $62 just on greeting/birthday cards. Ok, I'd like to think of myself as a generous giver.

That said, here are some pictures (from all over the web, such as fashionising.com)

Abby Lee Kershaw in a sheer maxi skirt.

Lowluv by Erin Wasson Cross Necklace. Saw it on a model for an online boutique and I love it! It's tad too pricey though (I'm a poor uni student surviving on a student allowance, so what more do you expect) But I'm contemplating if I should get this.

YSL Gold Pavot Arty Ring. I love it. But again, not sure if I wanna part with $275 for this baby. I mean, I bought a pair of Chanel earrings and i've only worn it less than five times. Bet it's collecting dust now.

And before I go, another week of awesome celeb goss (erm nope, I'm not referring to Kim Kardarshian's wedding) - Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are expecting their third child! :):):) I'm a huge fan of the Afflecks-Garner and I'm thrilled for them! I know a lot of people on the Internet always go how Jen Garner ain't stylish off the red carpets, but seriously, she's a hands-on mom so what do you expect? Granted, there are other stylish moms who are very hands-on when it comes to their kids a la Gwen Stefani and Nicole Richie, but she ain't J-Lo who goes around with an entourage of bodyguards and nannies. And it's so obvious that her girls are happy and very down-to-earth. And I'm sure many Garner fans out there can attest that the Afflecks are probably the most real Hollywood family ever. Whoops, and did I forget to mention that when Jen Garner's all immaculately styled for the red carpet and major events, she's one glamourous star? A real beauty indeed.

"I really feel like Anne Hathaway's character in The Devil Wears Prada"
-Quote from my fellow intern

Okay, so I realised I have not been posting for the whole month of December but HAPPY 2011 EVERYBODY (not that anyone is reading this blog anyway ahahahhaha).

Oh did I tell ya I did intern at the fashion magazine in the month of December. It was my first time interning (and at a fashion magazine at that!) and it was indeed, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I get to meet gorgeous models (and yes, they do eat) and get to be surrounded with designer clothes/shoes/bags all the time (think: Loewe, Balenciaga, Prada, Gucci, Chanel and the list goes on and on). And i also realised that while people in the fashion industry may be decked from head to toe in their Gucci, Jimmy Choos and Louboutins, they are in them simply cos it's their privilege - when you're in the fashion world, you don't have to pay full fledge prices for your designer wear cos there is such a thing as SAMPLE SALE!!! Yes, so that means, the Prada clutch from Spring/Summer 2011 may cost like a $800 in the market, but you pay for a mere $100 for it. I guess thats one of the amazing perks which these fashion peeps get to enjoy. And yes, they do receive stuff/freebies from the big brands too.

But that said, it's tough work being a fashion intern. Reporting to work at 5AM for a full-day shoot and lugging tons of designer gowns and shoes is never a breeze. There were moments when I really wanted to throw in the towel and do something like what Anna Hathaway's character in The Devil Wears Prada did when she threw her phone into the fountain at the Place de la Concorde, but who am I kidding seriously? It's all about work ethics seriously and I can't just quit on my bosses just like that. And plus, there were moments when I really enjoyed being at work - being the first to feel and admire the entire rack of the next season's clothes from the big brands as well as feeling a sense of accomplishment as the Editor does the final touch to the month's issue. And ogling at hot models? Now thats a huge bonus we're talking about.
